The Last Great Race on Earth!

The world's most famous sled dog race is on! Iditarod 41 kicked off on Saturday as the mushers made their way through Anchorage and then on to Willow where on Sunday the real competition started.  The 4th graders have chosen their mushers and are following them as they brave some of the roughest, most beautiful terrain in Alaska-along with some of the most brutal weather conditions.

The kids made pennants to cheer on their mushers.

We also read about Balto and how he helped carry medicine to the sick children in Nome in 1925.

The kids are learning about the Iditarod by completing a notebook filled with reading and math activities and even designing their own Iditarod booster button!
We will be anxiously awaiting to see who reaches Nome first!
