Spirit Week

"We've got spirit, yes we do; we've got spirit, how "bout you?"
Holy Cross certainly showed school spirit Topeka Tournament week! From crazy dress days, crazy hair, spirit wear, and the pep rally, the students were there to back the upper graders as they prepared for the 61st annual Topeka basketball tournament. It was a fun week that ended with some exciting basketball games and cheering for those who traveled to Topeka for the tournament. Go Eagles!

"Heart and Soul"

The 4th graders put their heart and soul into learning about the circulatory system! After reading about and discussing the blood, vessels, and heart, they had fun with some hands-on activities that displayed their knowledge.
First, they made a candy model of the heart. They used candy that represented the size of the red and white blood cells and  platelets, and they used corn syrup for the plasma.

They made a model of the body with the veins and arteries.

Then the 4th graders made a floor diagram of the heart showing the chambers of the heart and the direction that the blood flows.

Last, but definitely not the least, the kids added the circulatory system to gingerbread man cookies and enjoyed eating them.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:14

The Historical Wax Museum

The day the 4th graders have been looking forward to since December finally arrived today! The 2013 Historical Wax Museum was a tremendous success. After choosing and researching their characters, writing a speech and committing it to memory, finding a costume and props, the students performed for an excited group of parents and guests this afternoon. Well done 4th graders!

Lutheran Schools Week

Lutheran Schools Week

Holy Cross celebrated Lutheran Schools Week with hundreds of other Lutheran schools across the nation the last week of January. It is such a blessing that we can learn about and share the love of Jesus every day in every subject! We celebrated in different ways such as...

wearing our pajamas to school,

showing our school spirit by wearing our "Brainy 4th Graders" t-shirts,

learning about Jeanne's accident and how she has adapted to life as a quadriplegic using her creative talents to God's glory,

celebrating the birthday of Kansas with special treats and a cupcake birthday party,

dressing like someone we know or someone famous,

making Valentines for the veterans at the VA hospital,

and celebrating God's love for us with our friends from Bethany Lutheran and the Big King Puppets.

God has blessed us and continues to every day!
